Entertaining Toddlers/Preschoolers on a rainy day

With all the hurricanes and tropical storms going through the East coast, I thought I'll share how we keep my kids entertained when going out isn't an option.

Being a mom, there's so much scrutiny to limit screen time for your kids. Though I personally believe that it was television that helped sparked my 2 year old's speech. My daughter at the time was recommended for early intervention due to a limited vocabulary. And with a newborn to take care of, we resorted to giving her her first screen time exposure.  Her vocabulary exploded almost immediately.

While I don't shy away from screens and tech gadgets, I do think that kids need other toys to help spark their creativity.

My #1 recommendation - LEGOS! Boys and girls love them the same.

Duplo's are the best - and even though my kids are older now. They're still reaching for Duplo's over their normal sets.

Some of their favorite set are these train sets.   Fits in their little hands and allows them to have endless hours of imagination and creativity.  Sets like these spark so much joy for my kids.

Next, if you want to calm down and have some quiet time. My daughter loves getting her hands on diamond painting.  Pretty much a color by number type of artwork but with these little plastic beading that glues onto a design.

My daughter can sit for a good hour just tapping away at the little beads bringing any design to life.  These are therapeutic for adults as well.  A good pastime and bonding activity for mother and daugther.

Any recommendations that you might have? Let me know!

Love,

Melissa
